Women's Hairdressing Level 3 Diploma at Strode College

Course description

On this one year course you will learn all of the basic hairdressing skills and knowledge required to work as a junior stylist. You will study the following: working in the hair industry, providing consultation services, creative hair designs and promoting products and services, health and safety, shampooing and conditioning, cutting women’s hair, colour and lighten hair, perming and the art of dressing hair.

You will study in a commercial salon environment and, as you progress, you will have opportunities to work with paying clients in our Hair Salons in a supported and supervised arrangement.

Various trips to national trade exhibitions and competitions are a feature on the course. New for 2016 - you may have the opportunity to take part in our French Exchange programme with Lycée Professionnel - Agen.

You will also have an opportunity to participate in our annual industry day and to attend talks and presentations from representatives from the hairdressing industry. You will have the opportunity to show off your skills during the annual End of Year Showcase.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs grade D or above and/or NVQ Level 1 in Hairdressing.


Each unit is assessed through graded observations of practical skills and on-line testing. Participation in internal and external arranged competitions is also a requirement. City & Guilds Exam Board.

Financial information

Hairdressing kit including uniform £225.

Future opportunities

You can progress to study the Level 3 Diploma in Womens Hairdressing. You could gain employment in a salon as a junior stylist, work in product retailing or become self employed as a freelance stylist.

Former students have gone on to study the Level 3 Diploma in Womens Hairdressing and Apprenticeships.
