Maths AS/A Level (Edexcel) at Benton Park School

Course description

Students of Maths will develop an understanding of mathematics and mathematical processes, develop the ability to reason logically and construct mathematical proofs, and understand coherence and progression in mathematics.


Course content

Year 12

Core Maths 1:

Algebra and Functions, Quadratic Functions, Equations and Inequalities, Sketching Curves, Coordinate Geometry, Sequences and Series, Differentation, Integration

Core Maths 2:

Algebra and Functions, Geometry and Trigonometry, Sequences and Series, Trigonometry, Differentation and Integration

Statistics 1:

Working with Data, Probability, Correlation and Regression, Discrete Random Variables, Normal distribution

Year 13

Core Maths 3

Algebra and Functions, Numerical Methods, Trigonometry, Differentation

Core Maths 4

Algebra, Parametric Equations, Differentation and Integration, Further Integration, Vectors

Mechanics 1

Kinematics, Dynamics, Statics, Moments, Vectors


Entry requirements

Students are required to achieve a B in GCSE Maths to enrol on this course


All modules are 100% exam which is 1 hr 30 mins and marked out of 75 – each carries equal weighting to the final mark

Future opportunities

Studying maths will enable students to progress on to a variety of higher education programmes, apprenticeships or into full-time employment. The university or employment areas include, but are not limited to: Maths Statistics Engineering Physics Economics Insurance Accountancy Computer Science or Computer Games Design
