Geography A Level at Richard Rose Central Academy

Course description

This course is aimed at those who enjoy their world and are curious about its origins, or the people living in it. Students thinking about further education to college or university but this is also an appropriate course for anyone considering a career in areas such as marketing, politics, estate management, GIS specialists, environment agency, Travel and Tourism, conservation, civil engineer, town planning and forestry to name but a few. Geography is a diverse subject that provides a skills base highly rated by both employers and further education providers. Geography is an excellent cross curricular A level linking to the sciences as well as Humanities, English and Maths.

Course content

The Edexcel Geography course is a contemporary academic course encouraging independent study and the attainment of high order skills, it focuses on current global issues and how we are linked to them as an individual. It comprises some compulsory units of work, but students are also given choice and can direct their study into areas that truly interest them.

The course is made up of a number units. Some of these units are compulsory topics, whilst other units allow choice with regard to the topic studied which can be selected from a wider list of options. These are selected to reflect the particular interests of each year group or individual. Over the two years students are required to complete 4 core units.

This course is studied over two years with an AS and A2 examination. 

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade C or above including English. You must have studied geography at GCSE level.

Future opportunities

Students can obtain UCAS points to enable progression onto a Degree or other Higher education qualification. Students may be able to gain employment in a vast variety of careers, some of which are outlined at the start of this document as a geography qualification shows individuals have skills that are highly sought after by employers.
