Spanish A2 at Swinton Academy
You will develop language skills and build on the knowledge that you acquired at GCSE level. You will also get to use the language learned at GCSE in a wide range of contexts. You’ll gain insights into other cultures and contemporary societies. You’ll enhance your employability prospects, make foreign travelling easier and more enjoyable and realise how great it is to improve your language speaking abilities. The topics studied at AS Level are: MEDIA - TV, advertising and communication technology POPULAR CULTURE - cinema, music and fashion trends HEALTHY LIVING - sport, exercise, health and wellbeing FAMILY AND RELATIONSHIPS - including friendships and marriage The topics studied at A2 Level are: ENVIRONMENT - pollution, energy and protecting the planet THE MULTI-CULTURAL SOCIETY - immigration, integration and racism CONTEMPORY SOCIAL ISSUES - wealth and poverty, law and order, scientific and technological progress A CULTURAL TOPIC OF YOUR CHOICE - the focus could be a region, a period of 20th Century history, an author, a dramatist or an artist. At both levels you will be assessed in listening, reading, writing and speaking.
Entry Requirements: 5 GCSEs - A* - C including Maths or English Language and at least a grade B.at GCSE Spanish.
You could take this course with other advanced level course or equivalent to prepare for higher education in Spanish, Languages or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job requiring a knowledge of Spanish or Languages such as a Teacher, Translator, or you may wish to use your Spanish to study or work over in Spain. The course will also help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for, especially in the travel and tourism sector. Languages are an invaluable skill to have. Having a language can increase your salary from 8 to 20% and gives you a head start on other potential employees as by speaking another language you’re vital to any company who does international business (and there’s a lot of them). Plus, a language is also a pre-requisite for lots of university courses so it’s something to consider if you’re thinking about uni in the future. Languages are the key to the new, exciting multinational world we live in; so don’t miss out!
