Exploring the Care Sector - Level 1 Certificate at City of Oxford College
Get an introduction to working with young children and the early years environment with the Certificate in Caring for Children. It develops your basic skills in childcare education and play-work and gives you direct experience of working in an early years setting.
You gain personal social and development qualification and functional skills
You learn about the care of children play and practical activities growth and development food and nutrition and health and safety.
Areas studied include:
• care of children
• play and practical activities
• human growth and development
• food and nutrition
• health and safety practices in home and group settings
In the third term you do 15 days of supervised practical work in a childcare setting. The course also gives you the opportunity to improve your literacy numeracy and ICT skills.
Applicants for a Level 1 programme will normally have:
- A strong interest in their chosen programme of study
- The commitment to work towards improving English and Maths as part of the programme
- The ability to discuss past experiences of education and future ambitions in an interview
Applicants will be invited to attend an interview and complete an internal assessment. All students will have their literacy and numeracy needs supported within the programme.
Assessment is through assignment work.
You learn through classroom-based activities practical workshops and a supervised placement in the final term.

Successful achievement of this foundation award with a merit or a distinction can lead to further study on the Childcare and Education Level 2 Diploma
