Hospitality and Catering Level 2 Apprenticeship at Northumberland College

Course description

If you are looking to follow a career in the hospitality and catering industry then read on. This is a customer focused industry where the customer is at the heart of everything you do. You need to be hardworking, flexible and able to remain calm in what can, at times, be a very hectic work environment. The roles supported by this route are craft Chef, Kitchen assistant or Team member. Progression in terms of the industry is to Sous Chef or Team Supervisor. Eventual progression could be to Head Chef or Regional Manager within a large employer.

Course content

To reflect the many career options on offer, this Apprenticeship has several pathways. You will develop skills in one of several areas according to your job role such as working front of house, cookery or hospitality such as working in hotels. Ideal if you work in hospitality and catering and want to gain a recognised qualification.

Entry requirements

You should have two GCSEs at Grade D or above in English and Maths or a relevant Level 1 qualification and be employed in the industry. Mature students with no formal qualifications are welcomed. You must be employed to be able to do this course

Assessment

Your progress will be assessed by a range of methods including practical assessments/ observations, written assignments, and short online multiple choice tests. Much of the assessment is done in the workplace but there may be a requirement for you to attend college for 1 day per week.

Future opportunities

After completing the course you could progress on to study a Higher Apprenticeship course or you could work in the Hotel and Restaurant industry.
