Mathematics - A Level - Aqa at The Cotswold Academy
About the syllabus:
A Level Mathematics provides a thorough grounding in the mathematical tools and techniques often needed in the workplace. It provides a foundation for further studies in a variety of subjects including Science and Engineering.
The logic and reasoning skills developed by studying A Level Mathematics makes sure the qualification is widely respected even in non-mathematical arenas.
The Pure Core makes up two-thirds of the AS and A Level qualification and provides the techniques in algebra, geometry, trigonometry and calculus that form the fundamental building blocks of the subject.
Mathematical applications, the ‘applied’ part of the course, make up the remaining third of the qualification and, while there are various options to suit particular needs of individual students, for a broad and balanced curriculum, we generally choose the two strands:
Y12 Statistics – probability, data handling, testing hypotheses.
Y13 Mechanics – forces, energy, motion.
Both the AS and A Levels involve eight supervised periods per week, usually by two teachers and encourages independent work to make a success of the course. Extra teacher support is always on offer on a daily basis besides the issued textbooks, online advice and substantial guidance.
