Sociology A Level at Strode's College

Course description

A Level Sociology will give you a critical understanding of contemporary social issues and the way in which society is structured. You will have the opportunity to study a number of different social theories and explore ways in which they can be applied to society to help us understand it. You will be challenged to explore and explain changes in contemporary society, both nationally and globally, and how sociologists have obtained the evidence for their theories.

Course content

You will learn how to demonstrate advanced knowledge and understanding of society, social concepts, social theories and research methods. You will learn how to apply these to a range of issues and to analyse and evaluate them. You will also learn how to present and support your arguments, judgements and conclusions in an effective manner.

Entry requirements

General entry requirements for a Level 3 Pathway. Plus a grade C in English Language GCSE or equivalent.

Assessment

Three written examinations at the end of the two year course.
