Applied Science Level 3 BTEC 90 Credit Diploma at Barnet and Southgate College

Course description

The BTEC Nationals in Applied Science are a suite of qualifications that reflect aspects of employment with science organisations or organisations that use science and enable learners to develop practical scientific skills. These qualifications will appeal to learners who prefer portfolio-based assessment covering a variety of scienctific investigations. You must have a genuine interest in and an aptitude for science.

Course content

All students will follow a course equivalent to 90 credits consisting of mandatory and optional units. The units cover the fundamentals of science, human body anatomy and physiology, biochemical analysing. In addition, you will improve your scientific practical techniques by carrying out scientific investigations. You will also be studying mathematics at a higher level.

Entry requirements

You will require: A Merit in BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Applied Science (60 credits) or A standard of literacy and numeracy supported by a general education equivalent to 6 GCSE's at A* - C including Science, Aditional Science, Mathematics and English Language and a reference from your last/current school.

Assessment

All units will be assessed and graded and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded. To achieve a pass grade for the qualification you must complete and achieve a minimum of a pass in all units. Units will be assessed by assignments/projects/exercises set and marked by the unit tutors.

Future opportunities

A BTEC Level 3 (90 Credit) Diploma is a free standing qualification. The units achieved on it can be used to contribute towards a further BTEC National Level 3 qualification such as the Level 3 Diploma (120 credits) or the Level 3 Extended Diploma (180 credits).
