Geography at Bishop Luffa School

Course description

Geography is the unique bridging subject: it bridges the gap between the social and earth sciences. Human, physical andenvironmental aspects of geography will enhance your knowledge of people and places in the world. It is a flexible subject that integrates well with a variety of other subjects from the sciences to the arts. The subject allows you to develop a range of invaluable skills for the future including: communication, organisation, teamwork and problem-solving. Geography, with itsclose link to the world around us, opens a wide range of career opportunities in areas like: marketing, advertising, teaching, law,travel industry, business and development.

AS Level
Two main units are studied at AS. Your time will be split between human and physical geography courses taught by subject specialists.

A2 LevelUnit 3 The Global Issues unit allows students to study both environmental and economic issues covering topics likedevelopment, globalisation and natural hazards.

  • Unit 4 The Geographical Skills unit studies the processes that must be followed to carry out a geographical investigation. A residential fieldtrip to Wales where students identify and investigate a geographical question is undertaken to support thelearning in this unit.

  • Entry requirements

    Obtaining at least a B grade at GCSE is required to be accepted on the course.
