Photography A Level at Stationers Crown Woods Academy

Course description

YOU ARE The sort of student who wishes to develop your critical and creative side. You are willing to take risks and experiment with ideas. Most importantly you enjoy taking photographs and pushing the boundaries of what is deemed as possible.

Course content

An established and demanding, popular and successful course. You will develop skills on how to compose, identify and take effective photographs. You will visit galleries and exhibitions which showcase contemporary and traditional photography from around the globe. Students will learn traditional darkroom techniques as well as becoming confident in the use of editing software such as Photoshop and InDesign. Unit 1 (Coursework worth 40% of AS) is to produce informed work based on an introduction into the beginnings of Photography, followed by learning processes and techniques. Unit 2 is an externally set theme based exam (60% of AS). Unit 3 (60% of A2) is a self-directed project which concludes with a personal response and essay. Unit 4 (40% of A2) is an externally set based exam. In total the course is 60% coursework and 40% exam.

Entry requirements

English GCSE grade C. It would also be beneficial to have Art GCSE but is not a requirement.

Future opportunities

LATER YOU MIGHT BECOME A Professional Photographer, Graphic Designer, Architect, Fashion Designer, Advertising, Stage Designer, Visual Merchandiser do a Foundation Art Degree, Photography Degree or work in advertising.
