Why should I study Health and Social Care?
BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Health and Social Care is designed to give students a highly specialised work related qualification. On successful completion of this qualification students can progress to studying for a degree/enter into employment within the field of Health and Social Care. Alternatively students may wish to undertake the course to complement their other Level Three subjects.
What skills can I gain from studying Health and Social Care?
This subject will give you the opportunity to gain specific knowledge, understanding and skills that are relevant to a career in the field of Health and Social Care and for life in general. It will develop communication skills in order to form effective relationships and work cooperatively with other professionals. Interpersonal skills will also be developed which are vital to support people who require care. Students will have the opportunity to gain an understanding of policies and procedures to safeguard vulnerable groups in society who are most at risk of abuse and how to work in a way to promote anti-discrimination and inclusion.
Health, safety and security within care settings are also vital and students will learn how to investigate and avoid potential hazardsand minimise risks through conducting risk assessments. BTEC Level 3 Health and Social Care also incorporates the useof Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS) and the functional skills of Maths, English and ICT which are essential to success in learning, life and work.
National data suggests successful students will have achieved 4 A* - C grades at GCSE level.
Health and Social Care is an ideal subject for entry to such degree courses as Nursing, Midwifery, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Medicine, Early Years or Primary Teaching and Social Work as well as being suitable for other non-specific courses.
