Art & Design BTEC National at Plume College

Course description

This course will provide students’ with the opportunity to work across a range of creative disciplines, combing traditional and contemporary art and design practice and relevant skills for work.

This two-year course is made up of twelve units - five core units, two professional units and five specialist units chosen by the tutor. This enables students to study subject specific areas in depth. Units will be covered via project work where students work to a design brief exploring ideas, media and techniques to a satisfactory conclusion.

Entry requirements

This creative course requires students to attend an Guidance Discussion with a portfolio of visual work. Students who have studied Art and Graphics will have an advantage, although other students may apply with a portfolio of digitally created work, for instance, an ICT skill will be useful for some units. Each student’s creative potential will be judged individually, also taking into account their career aspirations. Students should have GCSE grade B in Art and a suitable portfolio or Merit in BTEC Media.
