Health & Social Care (Applied, Single Award) at King James's School
This applied A level provides an introduction to the wide arena of Health and Social Care, introducing topics with central relevance to careers in health, social work, criminal justice, early years care and education. Key areas addressed include psychology relating to professional communication techniques used when dealing with people from different client groups (e.g. children, those receiving care for mental/physical illness), the nature and provision of services within the UK, including screening and illness prevention. The AS course covers the psychology of communication techniques, the varied services operating within UK Health and Social Care provision, and day-to-day dealings with clients with health/care-related issues.
The A2 course further develops the themes and topics of the AS course.
5 GCSEs at Grade C or above (or equivalent qualification)
It would be an advantage to have at least a grade C at GCSE level in English, and 4 other GCSEs or equivalent at grade C or above. This is due to the large coursework component of the course.
