BTEC in Travel and Tourism Level 3 at St Crispin's School

Course description

The Level 3 BTEC in Travel and Tourism is a vocational based course which builds upon students’ knowledge from the Level 2 BTEC. It is examined purely through coursework so students are not required to sit an external examination at the end of the course.

The course investigates all areas of the industry and current affairs, which would feed in to many customer service based industries. This is an excellent course for those who enjoy travel and want to investigate destinations, planning trips and the industry further. The two year course is equivalent to an A level.

Course content

Students will complete a total of six units over two years. Three of these units will be completed in year 1 and remainder of the units in year 2. The two year course is equivalent to an A Level.

The units studied are:

Certificate Units: • Investigating Travel and Tourism • The UK as a destination • European destinations.

Subsidiary Diploma Units: • The Business of Travel and Tourism • Customer Service in Travel and Tourism • Researching Current Issues in Travel and Tourism.

Entry requirements

GCSE Geography at grade C or above or BTEC in Travel and Tourism (Level 2) at merit or above.

Assessment

Coursework.

Future opportunities

The travel and tourism industry is one of the largest industries in the world and creates many job opportunities. It is also suitable for those who may want to pursue further education in either the leisure industry or a travel and tourism based course.
