Music at All Saints School
Module 1: Performance - one or more pieces lasting a total of 5-6 minutes (Grade V is the expected level of competence). The piece/s may be in any style and may be solo items or as part of an ensemble
Module 2: This unit encourages students to develop their composition skills leading to the creation of a final 3-minute piece in response to a chosen brief.
Module 3: Listening and Understanding - learning to respond to the elements present in music and accurately describe/write them. A study of pieces from two different areas of study to develop skills in musical analysis, aural recognition.
Module 4: A recital of around 15 minutes. (Grade VI)
Module 5: Composing - an extension of the compositional techniques worked on in module 2 and/or harmony techniques.
Module 6: History and Analysis - a 45 minute listening test and a further written paper based on the study of a new set pieces including an essay based answer.
GCSE Average Grade Score of 40 or more, plus at least Grade 5 in Theory and Practical Music Exam (a B in Music is also preferred).
If a student hasn’t studied GCSE Music, then entry on the course will be through interview.
