Religious Studies (Philosophy and Ethics) A level at Central Lancaster High School

Course description

This qualification provides students with the exciting opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of world religions, and explore philosophy of religion and religion and ethics. We aim to inspire students to engage with major issues relevant to learners in the 21st century, and to acquire knowledge and a critical understanding of these.

Year 12:

Philosophy: 

  • Problem of evil 
  • Religious Experience 

Ethics: 

  • Euthanasia 
  • Business Ethics

Christianity:

  • Augustine & Afterlife
  • Afterlife

 

Year 13:

Philosophy

  • Ancient Philosophical influences
  • Mind body soul
  • existence of god

Ethics

  • Kant and Utilitarianism
  • Natural law and situation ethics

Christianity

  • Jesus Christ
  • Knowledge of Gods existence

Entry requirements

Normal entry expectation for level 3 courses is 5 GCSE A* to C grades.

Future opportunities

The Russell Group of top universities has made it clear that Religious Studies A level provides ‘suitable preparation for University generally’.
