Business Studies AS/A Level at Boston High School

Course description

Business Studies will give you the skills and knowledge that you will need to be able to carve out a successful career in any organisation in the future (be it your own business or a large multi‐ national corporation).

Course content

During your two year study of Business Studies you will complete four key themes:  Marketing and people; Managing business activities; Business decisions and strategy; and Global business. Within the four themes you will explore the Marketing mix; Human resource management; Fi‐ nance and financial planning; Assessing competitiveness; Change management; Global markets and marketing and multinational corporations.

Entry requirements

You need...

- Grade 5 in EnglishGCSE

- Grade 5 in Mathematics Grade 6 GCSE Business Studies would be preferable


Each theme is externally assessed in examinations at the end of year 13.  You will complete three examination papers, each two hours:

Paper 1: Marketing, people and global business and Paper 2: Business activities, decisions and strategy are worth 35% of the total qualification for each paper and comprise of data response questions and extended open‐response questions.

Paper 3: Investigating business in a competitive environment is worth 30% of the total qualification and is drawn from local, national and global contexts.  You will be working to a pre‐released case study in preparation for the paper 3 examination.
