BTEC in Business at Princes Risborough School

Course description

The course allows students to gain confidence through developing independent learning skills. Students learn and use a variety of transferable skills throughout the course, for example, collecting, analysing and interpreting data, communication and identifying and developing the links between different parts of the subject.

A 12 Unit Award is equivalent to 2 Advanced GCE passes at grades A-E.

A 6 Unit Award is equivalent to 1 GCE pass at grades A-E.

A BTEC in Business combines well with almost all other AS and A’ level subjects and a range of university courses. BTEC Business students develop the skills that employers are looking for, so you may consider a very wide range of employment opportunities which can also include further training.

AREAS OF STUDY: Students will study six or twelve units of work. All units of work will require the students to produce a portfolio of evidence which is assessed by the teaching staff. All students will be required to study the compulsory units of:

Unit 1: The Business Environment

Unit 2: Business Resources

Unit 3: Introduction to Marketing

Unit 4: Business Communication

The group will discuss optional units and decisions will be made considering the needs and interests of the group. Optional units cover topics such as: Accounting, Promotion, Marketing, Recruitment and Selection, Career Development, E-Business, Health and Safety, Business Ethics, International Business, the Economic Environment and Administration.

Course content

Normal Sixth Form entry requirements (5 or more A*-C grade passes at GCSE including English Language and Mathematics).
