Trowel Occupations Intermediate Apprenticeship Level 2 at Bishop Auckland College

Course description

Apprenticeships are practical hands on programmes designed to provide you with relevant, practical training, which will enable you to progress within your chosen industry. Apprentices are paid a minimum of 2.68 an hour if they are under 19 or over 19 and still in the first year of their apprenticeship programme. You will be employed between 30 and 40 hours a week. Bricklayers build and repair walls, chimney stacks, tunnel linings and decorative stonework like archways. They might also refurbish brickwork and masonry on restoration projects. As a bricklayer the projects you might work on can range from a house extension to a large commercial development. If you enjoy doing practical things and you are interested in construction, this could be the perfect apprenticeship for you!

Course content

You will be required to complete the NVQ and Diploma in Brickwork as well as completing Employer Rights and Responsibilities and Personal Learning and Thinking Skills. If it is required, you will also need to complete Functional Skills in Mathematics and English. You will be allocated an assessor who will visit you in your work place to provide support with the NVQ and you will attend Bishop Auckland College 1 day a week to complete theory work.

Future opportunities

The apprenticeship will develop your hand skills enabling you to build solid walls, cavity and half brick walls, and timber and steel framed constructions with confidence. You will develop knowledge and skills relating to setting out basic buildings, building methods, information, technology and health and safety.

 

What can I do when I finish?

Progress to the level 3 (advanced) apprenticeship in Brickwork. Progress in to a career as a: Bricklayer General Construction Operative Property Maintenance / Restoration Person Site Manager Estimator Contracts Manager Quantity Surveyor.
