Sport BTEC Extended Certificate Level 2 at Colchester Institute

Course description

The Sport BTEC Extended Certificate will provide the opportunity to develop practical vocational skills, knowledge and understanding for work in the expanding area of leisure and recreation.

This flexible course gives a broad introduction that not only explores the various career pathways but also examines the key skills required to succeed at work.

A variety of learning styles are developed. These include formal class learning, group work, practicals, presentations and individual tutorials relating to the assignment programme.

In addition to your main programme, you will also engage in GEM and GAP activities to develop your English, maths and employability skills.

  • Practical Sports Performance
  • Anatomy and Physiology for Sports Performance
  • Leading Sports Activities
  • Injury and the Sports Performer
  • Lifestyle and Well-being
  • Running a Sports Event

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs (grade A*-E) including English and one other at grade D, or satisfactory results in a relevant Level 1 qualification, and an interview. A satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)* check will also be required.
* Please note there is a charge of £44 for a DBS check.

Future opportunities

The full Sport BTEC Level 2 First Extended Certificate (minimum Merit) enables access to the BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Sport or a Diploma in Sports Coaching.There is a wide range of careers from immediate employment as a junior in a leisure, sports or outdoor pursuits centre, to management in diverse organisations with further study.
