An Introduction to Early Years Education and Care CACHE Level 2 Certificate at Teignmouth Community School
This is a one year full time Early Years and Childcare qualification which also includes a placement two days per week to enable the student to build up a portfolio of practical experiences along with a minimum of 250 hours in a suitable early year’s environment. Students will need to study GCSE English and Maths if they have not achieved a grade 4 in those subjects, and we recommend those who have not achieved a 5 to study the GCSE.
You will study 16 units during the year which will include topics relating to communication, equality, safeguarding children, health & safety, child development, healthy eating and exercise and behaviour of children. You will spend 3 days in school and 2 days in a local placement where you will be assessed by a qualified early years Assessor who will support you in the practical elements of the course. During work experience days you can attend up to 3 different placements over the course of the year in order to gain experience of working with a variety of age groups and related specific needs. This course has been running successfully now for over 5 years and students have gone into full time employment upon completion of the qualification or chosen to study a level 3 qualification to gain further experience and a higher grade.
A keen interest in working with children and an ability to work alongside adults in a work placement environment. You will also need to be reliable and fully committed to attending placement 2 days per week. Please note a DBS check will need to be carried out at the start of the course to ensure suitability.
This is the industry appropriate level 2 qualification that early years Nurseries and Child Care establishments require. It is practical and relevant. The course is therefore suitable for someone who is looking for a career with young children and for those who are considering progression onto a level 3 qualification/apprenticeship within the early year’s sector.
