Building Maintenance (Level 2) Apprenticeship at Central College Nottingham

Course description

This course is for those employed in the Construction trade as a Maintenance Operative.

Course content

You will attend college one day a week to complete the underpinning knowledge and portfolio in order to compile the evidence you need for the Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Building Maintenance. You will also study Functional Skills in English and Maths as part of the course and be required to complete an Employment Rights and Responsibilities work booklet to be awarded the full Level 2 Apprenticeship Framework Certificate.

The Apprenticeship is made up of the following elements:

  • NVQ 2 in Building Maintenance
  • Level 2 Diploma in Building Maintenance
  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)
  • Functional Skills in English and Maths

English and Maths are an essential part of your studies and will help you succeed on your course. These subjects will help you develop confidence and are the key employability skills that all employers now look for when recruiting.

Entry requirements

You will need 4 GCSEs at grades D or above including English and/or Maths or agreed equivalents. You need to show that you are committed and aware of your responsibilities to both yourself and the Company you work for.

Assessment

Each unit is continually assessed. You present evidence of competence via practical assessments and the production of a personal portfolio of evidence.

Future opportunities

There is no Advanced Apprenticeship in Building Maintenance. However there is the possibility, after gaining experience in your chosen occupational area, for you to progress into Occupational Work Supervision, Management or technical support areas.

Further information

You must be employed as a Maintenance Operative before enrolling. You will be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment at all times during your placement and at college when using any tools / machinery.
