Chemistry A Level (OCR) at Hampton Sixth Form
Students would normally be expected to have achieved a minimum level of 6-6 in GCSE combined science or a 6 in GCSE Chemistry and ideally a grade 6 in GCSE Maths. Chemistry has a large amount of mathematical content.
Applied Science GCSE is not a suitable preparation for A Level Chemistry.
AS - 100% examination
Examination is by two 90 minute examinations.
A2 – 100% examination
Examination is by three exams. The length of these exams varies depending on the exam board. In addition, at A2, there is a practical endorsement. This does not contribute to the overall grade and is reported as either pass or fail in addition to the end result.
This subject is linear in nature i.e. AS assessments do not count toward the final grade.
Chemistry links with many subjects – it complements Physics and Biology; the climate and geology aspects link in with Geography; the biochemistry aspects link in with PE.
