Course description

Carry out an in depth study of vehicle systems. Learn what goes on beneath the bonnet, under the chassis and behind the alloys.

Expect to work on cars (as much as physically possible) on this course whilst also learning about the theory behind cars.

  • The final unit covers vehicle maintenance

Course content

Students will learn about the construction and operation of all vehicle systems, this course will provide students with the opportunity to carry out an in depth study of vehicle systems.

The course is divided between the classroom and workshop and students will study the following vehicle systems:

  • Engine systems
  • Transmission
  • Steering Suspension
  • Braking systems
  • Vehicle electrical systems.
  • The final unit covers vehicle maintenance.

Entry requirements

GCSE grade D in English, Maths and Science.

Assessment

Students are continually assessed during this course with assessments being divided between classroom based theory tests and workshop based practical assessments.

Future opportunities

On completion of this course many students gain employment and move onto a Level 3 apprenticeship.

Some students have moved into engineering and have eventually gained a place at University.
