Art & Design BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate at South Cheshire College

Course description

This Level 2 is a multidiscipline course that covers a broad range of art & design processes in order to build confidence with art techniques. The course will allow learners to strengthen their portfolio which can be used to progress to another course. What’s on it? You will explore a range of subject matter and skills in The Arts in Context , Visual Studies, Textiles, Photography, Graphics /Digital Design and Arts & the Industry – Portfolio building and Career pathways. Learners will also re-take Functional Skills or GCSE Maths and English if they have not achieved a Grade C or above. Assessment You will be assessed through a range of methods including practical artwork, presentations, discussions and written work. This will give you the opportunity to share your ideas visually, verbally and in written form. At the end of each project you will receive feedback and suggestions for how you can continually improve your work on the next assignment. You will also undertake two externally set assignments which will be internally and externally assessed. The summer term offers you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt through the final major project, your outcomes for this will presented at The End of Year Show.

Course content

Entry requirements

Minimum of 4 GCSE grades D – E including Art & Design, English and Maths or equivalent. A portfolio of current work that must be presented at interview.

Financial information

Course materials cost approximately £50.00 per term for art materials and sketchbooks. You will be provided with a specific ‘Kit List’ once you have successfully been offered a place on the course.

Future opportunities

Student who complete this course and achieve a Merit grade or above will have the opportunity to progress on to a Level 3 Art and Design course within Visual Arts and Media, such as Art and Design, Design and Graphics or Photography.

It is on major bus routes and is less than a 15 minute walk from the mainline railway station in Crewe. Junctions 16 and 17 of the M6 motorway are both only a 15 minute drive away and Manchester International airport is just 45 minutes away by rail or road.
