Music A Level at Stratford-upon-Avon College
A Level Music supports the progression to higher education in music and inspires a lifelong interest in the enjoyment of music. The A Level programme at Stratford College encompasses three disciplines of music; performance, composition and musical analysis. The programme is delivered by lectures with specific research degrees related to the Areas of Study and enhanced by visits to external performances, concerts, lectures and on-line virtual learning environments.
Students compile a portfolio of original compositions to demonstrate compositional concepts and techniques from 1650 to 1910, Jazz, Popular music, 20th Century Art music and diverse musical cultures. As performers, students prepare repertoire for a recital as a soloist and member of an ensemble.
The A level programme concludes with a historical, cultural and contemporary analysis of musical concepts and contexts through an aural appraisal and written assessment.
You will need to have at least:
- 5 GCSE passes at grade C / grade 5 or above including English Language and Mathematics.
- GCSE Music grade C / grade 5 (or above) or ABRSM / Trinity College London Grade V Theory of Music or equivalent
- ABRSM/ TCL Grade V instrumental certificate
Assessment is 60% practical examination and 40% written examination.
