History AS Level at The Astley Cooper School

Course description

History is not only a fascinating subject but it also equips you with the skills which are essential to making you successful and enterprising adults. You will learn to develop your skills of analysis and evaluation. You will be able to develop and sustain arguments which are supported by evidence.

Course content

For the AS level you will study two units.

Unit 1 : The Civil Rights Movement, 1945-68 and The USA in Asia, 1950 - 73
Unit 2 : The Experience of Warfare in Britain: Crimea, Boer and the First World War

A2 Level:

Unit 3 : Boom, Bust and Recovery : USA 1917 - 1954
Unit 4 : Coursework International Relations 1879 - 1980

You will follow this course with two or three other AS/A2 levels and, additionally, the compulsory core such as PSHE, RE, PE/Games.

Assessment

Students will be examined through modular exams.
