Art and Design - Fine Art AS Level at Highbury College
This A Level provides you with an opportunity to develop and explore your own ideas in a variety of disciplines which could include painting, drawing, collage, sculpture, printmaking and photography.
This programme can be combined with other AS/A2 qualifications, with a vocational programme such as a Diploma, or studied on its own.
You will learn in a variety of ways, including demonstrations, skills workshops and formal lessons.
In Year 1 you will complete the AS Level (coursework portfolio and an externally set assignment).
You will develop both theoretical and practical skills and investigate how ideas feelings and meanings can be conveyed and interpreted in images and artefacts.
You will develop a range of skills, including drawing, painting, print-making and mixed media.
As part of the programme you will also visit local and national galleries and have the opportunity to exhibit your own work.
- You will normally be expected to have five GCSEs at C or above, including English and a B grade in Art and Design.
- At interview you will be expected to present a portfolio of your own art work.
- Acceptance will be subject to interview
Assessment will be a mix of coursework portfolio and externally set assignments.
This qualification can be used as part of a combination of subjects for entry to university.
There are many career opportunities for people with qualifications in this area, which could include art history, textiles, graphics/illustration, set design, interior design, 3D design, art therapy, product design and teaching.
