Spanish at Dyson Perrins CofE Academy

Course description

Learning an additional language such as Spanish allows you to develop a variety of skills such as communication, presentation, problem solving,organisation and independence. It can improve your English as it heightens your awareness of structure and grammar. Having a language at GCSE can be of benefit as many jobs requiring languages skills need them as a secondary qualification.Over 20% of employers say that they need employees who are more competent in languages.
The GCSE will be completed in one or two years, depending on ability and confidence. Students will study: personal and social life: self, family and personal relationships; free time and social activities; illness and accident; The world of work: work experience; careers and employment; part-time jobs; home town; local environment; weather; school; travel and holidays; media and social issues. In the early weeks the teaching is mainly through listening and oral activities. However, at an early stage, reading and writing skills are introduced and will be done mainly for homework. There is also a good grounding in grammar

Entry requirements

Students do not need to have a qualification in preparation for this course, although a keenness for languages, Spanish and Spain is expected. You will need a strong commitment to learning and good study skills are invaluable for this intensive but very rewarding course.
