Course description

The BTEC Level 3 in Production Arts is a vocational qualification with an emphasis on investigating practitioners’ work and applying skills and techniques in live performance. The BTEC is coursework based with four units designed to cover a wide range of academic and vocational skills. In the first year you investigate the work of influential practitioners and create a report on their approaches to a given theme. You will also take on a variety of roles within a production team such as stage management, costume management, operating sound and lighting and make up. In the second year you will specialize in one of area of production and complete a written assessment to design a product for an externally set brief. This course will develop skills in production, design, research and investigation, and communication.

Entry requirements

Grade C GCSE Drama or BTEC Level 2 in Performing or Production Arts Merit or above or relevant experience in production roles.

Assessment

The course is unit based and each unit is given a credit value depending on the guided learning hours. At the start of each unit you will receive an assignment brief detailing the tasks and criteria to be met. At the end of each unit you will be given a grade of pass, merit or distinction. Units 1 and 3 are externally assessed. Assessment activities include performance work and extended writing.
