Construction - Level 3 Diploma in Bricklaying (Construction) at Wakefield College

Course description

This course is aimed at those who already hold a formal Brickwork qualification or have acquired suitable industry experience. It is designed to build on your existing skills and knowledge to gain and enhance your skills for the work place.

This valuable Level 3 qualification in bricklaying also provides an opportunity for those who are looking towards a future move from the craft area into supervision or management.

Course content

What you will study

All the practical skills required in the construction of brickwork including the construction of solid and cavity walling. Theoretical elements include technical drawing, technology, Health & Safety and site procedures.

How you will learn

Mostly by carrying out realistic practical projects in the workshops, but also by attending lectures and tutorials and working through study packages.

Your Course Structure

Classroom: 35%; Practical: 65%

Entry requirements

Level 2 Diploma in Construction (Bricklaying) or suitable industry experience which can be assessed at an interview with a course tutor. All applicants will be required to sit a selection test and attend an interview. You will need Level 2 literacy and numeracy qualifications, but if you do not have these we can assess you.

Assessment

Continuous assessment of your practical tasks and online tests at the end of each unit.

Financial information

Tuition and certification are free if you are aged 16-18 years old. Related additional costs may include materials, equipment, visits, residential etc. which are payable by all students.

Any student entered/registered with an Awarding Body who has been given free entry and then withdraws or is withdrawn by a tutor will incur the certification fee associated with the course. Any re-sit examination will incur a cost.

Future opportunities

Further study

Progression from this course can be made to the CIOB Level 3 Site Supervision and then to Level 4 HNC Construction and the Built Environment/ CIOB Level 4 Site Management.

Career opportunities

Employment as a specialist bricklayer. With experience you could move into a supervisory position or even run your own business.

      The Castleford Campus (previously known as the skillsXchange) houses the College’s provision in Construction, Motor Vehicle, Engineering, Hair and Beauty, IT and some Care and replaces the training which was previously offered at the College’s Whitwood Campus.

      Located at Junction 32 of the M62 between Castleford and Pontefract, the site is well known for Xscape, the indoor ski slope whose building houses a 14-screen cinema, bowling alley, climbing wall, sports facilities and restaurants. The Campus is situated directly next to the Asda in Glasshoughton.


      A learning resource centre, equipped with the very latest in technology, is a superb place for individual study, or to relax and use the internet. The Centre overlooks the large external courtyard, where students can mix, mingle and chill.

      In state-of-the-art hair and beauty salons, including a nail bar, we are training the next generation of hairdressers and beauticians. These professional salons offer live training environments to our students, with treatments for both men and women available at affordable prices. There are also industry standard facilities for the study of construction and engineering, motor vehicle and electrical courses.
