Course description

The course for German at AS level follows the specification as set out by EDEXCEL. There are two discreet units in which students are assessed for the award of AS German. Unit one forms the basis of spoken assessment in German. Unit two assesses listening, reading and writing skills in the target language. The course is designed to encourage candidates to: develop the knowledge and skills acquired at GCSE level and therefore use German in a wide range of contexts; gain a useful insight into another culture and reflect on various aspects of contemporary society; enhance their employment prospects, facilitate foreign travel and experience the enjoyment and motivation of improving their linguistic level.

Entry requirements

The entry requirements for AS German are grade B or above at GCSE German or in cases where candidates do not hold a GCSE in German, they must be able to demonstrate an equivalent or higher knowledge of the subject. An interest in current affairs both national and international is a distinct advantage as is an ability to think analytically and to present your thoughts and opinions in a sensible and logical manner. AS Level German relies heavily on an understanding of the issues covered as well as a high and accurate standard of language.
