GCSE Maths at Bromley College of Further & Higher Education

Course description

This course is designed primarily for students who have already studied GCSE Maths, but wish to improve their grade to a C or higher.  The majority of students will study at Foundation Tier.

Course content

The AQA GCSE Mathematics course consists of the following three units:

  • Unit 1: Statistics and Number. 1 hour calculator exam (26.7%).
  • Unit 2: Number and Algebra. 1 hour 15 minutes non-calculator exam (33.3%).
  • Unit 3: Geometry and Algebra. 1 hour 30 minutes calculator exam (40%).

Both calculator skills and non-calculator skills are developed throughout the course. As a student on this course, you will experience new approaches to learning Mathematics, including substantial e-learning opportunities. You will require a scientific calculator.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs - 3 D grades and 1 C grade including Maths.

Assessment

Assessment is by written examination based on the three units listed above. All the three units are externally assessed in June, by AQA.

Future opportunities

GCSE Maths allows progression to many level 3 qualifications or above and is a requirement for many degree courses and careers.
