Digital Design & Graphics BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at Grantham College
BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma Digital Design & Graphics is a nationally recognised qualification that is equivalent to three A-Levels and therefore provides a natural stepping stone to courses in higher education. The course offers a focused programme which develops creative graphic design, multimedia and interpersonal skills. The course focuses on problem solving and the development of a personal visual language suitable for the design industry. You will prepare a portfolio of design work and on completion be equipped to evaluate and present your own work.
The course covers a variety of design related subjects and may include:
- Developing concepts for advertising
- Exploring graphic design areas
- Mixed media image making
- Professional practice & presentation skills
- Specialist computer applications
- Typography Website design.
5 GCSEs (Grade C or above), it is recommended that one is GCSE English Language, or a relevant Level 2 Diploma with at least a Merit profile or an appropriate equivalent. A portfolio of Art & Design work and satisfactory references are also required.
Assignments and portfolio of work.
If you are studying on a BTEC programme at college then you will also be required to attend a 1 or 2 hour Functional Skills session and a 1 hour Tutorial session per week. This will give you opportunities to develop and enhance your personal, communication and academic skills, which can then be applied to a wide range of subjects and to areas of employment. In order to be able to study on this course you will need to buy a range of art equipment, sketchbooks and a portfolio to keep your work in.
There is an Art shop within the Arts Centre that stocks the materials and equipment listed above at competitive prices. We can provide two Graphics Kit Boxes which include the essential range of equipment for you to start your course, starting from as little as £25.00. You will also need an A4 folder with dividers in which you must keep all of your paperwork, handouts, notes, research, evaluations, feedback and assessments. In addition to these a 35mm film camera and/or digital camera to record your work will be an advantage. Educational Visits During the course you will be required to attend a number of day visits to museums, Exhibitions, other colleges, Universities and, on occasions, residential visits. There will be a cost involved in these visits with the average being around £20 per visit.
This course will enable you to prepare a portfolio of design work and equip you with the necessary skills to operate at junior designer level. It also represents an ideal route if you want to progress on to a Foundation degree or BA degree course in Graphic Design or a design - related discipline.
