Art A Level at Clacton County High School

Course description

The Art and Design course will allow you to develop your ability to appreciate the visual world and respond in a personal and creative way. You will be encouraged to develop your own personal interests whilst also having the opportunity to develop your experiences and knowledge of materials, practices and technologies in a variety of Fine Art disciplines.

This course will suit you if you are passionate about art and love exploring new ideas, techniques and processes.

In Year 12 you will complete a ‘Coursework Portfolio’ and the ‘Controlled Assignment’. The coursework element is composed of two projects which will enable you to produce a portfolio of work based on your exploration of a wide range of materials, processes and techniques. As part of this you will undertake a 10 week course of Life Drawing classes to develop your drawing skills which will lead on to a final outcome.

In Year 13 you are encouraged to develop a more creative and independent approach, exploring themes, artists and practical skills in greater depth. You will have the opportunity to explore a theme of personal interest and plan your own personal investigation that focuses on developing a self-directed approach.

There are many enrichment opportunities within this subject area including working with visiting artists and exhibiting work in galleries and competitions. In addition to the practical side of the Art course, you will produce a 1000-3000 word critical analysis.
