AS/A2 Level Geography at Cardinal Griffin Catholic High School - a Science College
AS/A2 – Exam Board Edexcel
In Geography you will study 2 units each year.
This qualification provides opportunities for developing our understanding of moral, social and cultural issues together with environmental issues, health and safety considerations and European and international agreements.
The first unit, Global Challenges, looks at the meaning, causes and impacts of a number of global issues. It gives students the opportunity to evaluate existing attempts to manage problems and challenges us to find solutions for the 21st Century.
Unit 2 takes a closer look at how physical and human issues influence lives and how they can be managed. Students are given the opportunity to look at local issues as well as in a wider world context.
Many resources in the world are finite, so Unit 3 explores the rising consumption and management of resources and asks the question of whether technological development is the solution to overcoming resource scarcity, income equality and environmental management.
The final Unit, unit 4, offers 6 research options and students may choose according to whether they prefer a strong physical focus or more environmental, social and cultural geographies.
The minimum requirement to study Geography at AS Level is GCSE Grade B.
This qualification supports progression into further education, training or employment, or entry onto a degree course in Geography.
