Information Technology Level 2 at Woking College

Course description

IT is at the heart of everyday life, at home, work and in our leisure time from computer graphics and control systems to communications and problem-solving. This course will help you achieve a level of digital literacy to be prepared for the digital workforce and/or to pursue an advanced level programme in IT. Students will also develop their communication and organisation skills. Your grade will be based on coursework with no formal examinations.

Course content

This course is available as both a Certificate (equiv. 1 GCSE) and Extended Certificate (equiv. 2 GCSEs). Topics for both options are outlined below:

Cambridge Technical Certificate

  • Unit 1: Communicating in the IT industry
  • Unit 9: Website development

Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate

All above units, plus:

  • Unit 2: Working in the IT industry
  • Unit 23: Spreadsheet Modelling

Entry requirements

This course is suitable for students who have not attained five A*- C grades (or equivalent 4+)

Assessment

Coursework = 100%

Future opportunities

Passing either qualification with a Merit or higher will fully prepare students for study at A Level or entry-level employment in IT.
