Childcare and Education (Early Years Educator) Diploma Level 3 at The Manchester College

Course description

Advancing your skills and knowledge step by step, this Level 3 course will help you complete an Award, Certificate and finally a Diploma qualification to prepare you for a career working with children from birth to five years old, and enable you to secure a job as an Early Years Educator. You’ll be covering a wide range of topics to get a thorough understanding of how children develop, right from conception through to about seven years old. You’ll look at topics around their health, their needs, their wellbeing, and how they play and learn. As you’ll be working in real, early years environments for parts of the certificate and diploma levels of this course, you’ll also be developing a number of key employability skills. You’ll look at observation, assessment and planning requirements, best professional practices, how to support emergent literacy and mathematics, and how to prepare for school readiness. Each topic will prepare you for a successful career in childcare and education.

Entry requirements

You’ll need to have at least 5 GCSE grades at A* - C, including a C or above in English and a D or above in Maths to enrol on this Level 3 course. Some previous experience working with children would also be helpful. Alternatively, you’ll need to have a completed a full Level 2 Childcare qualification, with a pass grade or above. All units on this course will be assessed internally by your tutor, and will use a range of method to check your skills are developing appropriately, including both written tasks and practical assignments. For the Certificate and Diploma qualifications, you will complete some externally assessed tasks.

Future opportunities

After you’ve worked through each stage of this course and completed the Level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education, you’ll be able to either enter the workforce with your skills and abilities or continue onto a higher-level course. You may want to advance onto a Foundation Degree in Childhood and Youth Studies at The Manchester College to expand your knowledge further, or you might want to dive straight into one of a number of exciting career opportunities in education.     • North Manchester Sixth Form is a friendly, vibrant sixth form centre offering courses for school leavers. There are a wide range of courses to choose from, including acting, medical sciences, childcare, business, film production and forensics. The comfortable, environmentally friendly site is made up of a bright modern building and the restored Harpurhey Baths. There is plenty of space to socialise and a large garden. Many of the facilities at North Manchester Sixth Form are open to the community.

      Harpurhey Baths is a Grade II listed building and part of North Manchester Sixth Form. The college has transformed the building into an award-winning exhibition space for students and the community.

      North Manchester Sixth Form is in Harpurhey, a suburb three miles north of central Manchester. There are a large market, supermarket, shops, fast food chains and a post office nearby. North Manchester Sixth Form is close to Queens Park and Boggart Hole Clough, large community parks hosting events throughout the year. Queens Park has a children’s playground. North City Family and Fitness Centre is five minutes’ walk away and has a health suite and swimming pool.
