Sport BTEC Level 3 90 Credit Diploma at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College*

Course description

The BTEC Level 3 90 Credit Diploma in Sport course is a full-time course for learners wanting to progress in to a sport-related career or to progress first in to Higher Education. The course is designed to reflect both the practical and theoretical aspects of sport across a range of disciplines.

Course content

Modules covered may include the principles of anatomy and physiology, fitness testing and training, sports nutrition, sports coaching and the analysis of sports performance.

Entry requirements

Applicants must have studied at GCSE level and achieved 5 grade 4 (grade C) GCSEs or above, inclusive of Maths, English Language, Science and PE, as well as demonstrating (at interview and a College Taster day) an enthusiasm for the industry in addition to an interest in sport and/or coaching and a keen motivation to learn.


Learners will be assigned a personal tutor, who, alongside other delivery staff on the programme, will monitor progress on the course in relation to work submission, attendance, behaviour and punctuality as well as progress against a learner's individual targets.

Future opportunities

At the conclusion of this programme of study, ideally learners will progress on to the Level 3 Extended Diploma Top-up. Those who do not could progress directly in to career roles, such as leisure assistant, assistant sports coach, gym instructor, lifestyle trainer, sport development, or could become involved in the administration of sport and leisure.
