Engineering, CAE and Design Level 3 Diploma at Warwickshire College Group

Course description

This course will provide you with the opportunity to gain the qualifications, knowledge and experience needed for a career in the ever-expanding Engineering Industry.

As far as possible the course is practically based. For much of this course you will be involved in practical activities in a real workshop with simulated manufacturing and inspection tasks. Theory based sessions will be taught in the classroom.

Course content

As an engineering student you will be studying modules in a variety of areas, which will lead you to gaining experience in, amongst other things:

  • Engineering health and safety
  • Engineering principles
  • Principles of mechanical manufacturing engineering
  • Principles of electrical and electronic engineering
  • CNC machining of materials
  • Produce drawings using CAD

Entry requirements

You will be required to have successfully achieved Level 2 Engineering. (If Learners require an additional Functional Skills qualification this can be gained during the course.)

English and maths qualifications are vitally important for future employers and universities, so the government has made it a priority for students to improve these skills.

Entry Level / Level 1 and Level 2: We’re here to help you on your journey, so if you do not achieve grade A*-C in GCSE English and/or maths, then you will study English and/or maths as part of your college course.

Students who achieve a D grade will be placed on the relevant GCSE programme, while students who achieve an E or below will be assessed to ensure they are placed on the right study programme for their ability.

Level 3 programmes: You will need to meet the course entry requirements specified on the course information above. For the majority of our Level 3 courses, students will need grade A*-C in GCSE English and/or maths. If this is not specified in the course entry requirement, then you may be able to study English and/or maths as part of your college course.


Continual assessment throughout the course/ written assignments/ online tests/ practical assessments are undertaken.

Future opportunities

This course can lead to direct entry in to employment or further study at university.
