Mathematics at Fakenham Academy (College)

Course description

Two thirds of the As course involves studying Pure Mathematics. You will develop the algebra and trigonometry you studied at GCSE much further, and also meet new concepts including calculus, exponentials and logarithms. You will also study an Applied Mathematics module in Statistics. his involves analysing data, learning about probability distributions, including the binomial and normal distributions.

Two out of three of the A2 modules are on Pure Mathematics. You will develop the calculus you met at AS considerably, differentiating and integrating many new functions. You will also take algebra and trigonometry further meeting new concepts including exponentials and vectors. The remaining Applied Mathematics module is Mechanics. This is the mathematics of forces and motion and you will study Newton's Laws of motion, momentum, friction and projectiles. You will find this particularly helpful if you are also taking Physics at A Level.

Entry requirements
