Sport Diploma BTEC Level 3 at Leeds East Academy

Course description

Certificate - 30 credits to be gained from mandatory and optional units.

Subsidiary Diploma - 60 credits to be gained from mandatory, specialist and optional units.

Diploma - 120 credits to be gained from mandatory and optional units.


Course content

This course follows the Edexcel specification for Sport. The course covers units, that include practical and theory. Students will study the following units:

Unit 1 - The principles of anatomy and physiology in sport

Unit 2 - The physiology of fitness

Unit 3 - Assessing risk in sport

Unit 4 - Fitness training and programming

Unit 7 - Fitness testing for sport and exercise

Unit 8 - Practical Team Sports

Unit 11 - Sports Nutrition

Unit 12 - Current issues in sport


Unit 15 - Instructing physical activity and exercise

Unit 17 - Psychology for sports performance

Unit 18 - Sports injuries

Unit 27 - Technical and tactical skills in sport

Unit 28 - The athletes lifestyle

Entry requirements

At least a C at GCSE in Physical Education, English and Science, and/or at least a pass at level 2 BTEC sport.


All qualifications are assessed internally and then externally verified.  These range from power points, interviews, witness statements, booklets, role play, diaries etc.
