Health and Social Care BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at Epping Forest College
This practical, work-related course provides you with a nationally recognised vocational qualification that can lead directly to employment in the health & care sectors. The course also offers excellent progression routes to Higher Education in areas such as social work, criminology, paediatric nursing, general nursing, dietetics and other medical related courses. We have a committed teaching team who have extensive experience of working in the health and social care sector. Subjects are enriched through a programme of educational visits and guest speakers. There are no external examinations. Students are assessed in a variety of ways, such as written assignments, projects and presentations. You will also undertake practical work experience in 4 different health & care settings.
You will study units including:
- physiology and counselling skills
- equality and diversity
- development through the life stages
- psychological and sociological perspectives
4 GCSEs A-C including English Language or distinction at the appropriate Level 2 Diploma including English Language at Grade A-C
Materials will be discussed at the interview.
There are lots of different options to continue your studies after level 3 qualifications. These include specialised vocational degrees , Honours Degrees (usually 3 year courses, although they may include a sandwich year on work placement).
It is very important to find out about all of your options after you have completed your course. Some careers will require specific qualifications and training for you to work in the sector, whereas other jobs and careers do not have a set training route.
You may also choose to apply for an Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3) or Higher Apprenticeships (Level 4/Foundation Degree). Information about apprenticeships can be found at the National Apprenticeship website - you can search and apply for apprenticeships there. You then complete ONE application form, which you can use to apply for any Apprenticeship. The entry requirements vary a lot, depending on the employer, the college and the Apprenticeship.
