Health and Social Care BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at Epping Forest College

Course description

This practical, work-related course provides you with a nationally recognised vocational qualification that can lead directly to employment in the health & care sectors. The course also offers excellent progression routes to Higher Education in areas such as social work, criminology, paediatric nursing, general nursing, dietetics and other medical related courses. We have a committed teaching team who have extensive experience of working in the health and social care sector. Subjects are enriched through a programme of educational visits and guest speakers. There are no external examinations. Students are assessed in a variety of ways, such as written assignments, projects and presentations. You will also undertake practical work experience in 4 different health & care settings.

Course content

You will study units including:

  • physiology and counselling skills
  • equality and diversity
  • development through the life stages
  • psychological and sociological perspectives

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs A-C including English Language or distinction at the appropriate Level 2 Diploma including English Language at Grade A-C

Future opportunities

There are lots of different options to continue your studies after level 3 qualifications. These include specialised vocational degrees , Honours Degrees (usually 3 year courses, although they may include a sandwich year on work placement).

It is very important to find out about all of your options after you have completed your course. Some careers will require specific qualifications and training for you to work in the sector, whereas other jobs and careers do not have a set training route.

You may also choose to apply for an Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3) or Higher Apprenticeships (Level 4/Foundation Degree). Information about apprenticeships can be found at the National Apprenticeship website - you can search and apply for apprenticeships there. You then complete ONE application form, which you can use to apply for any Apprenticeship.       The College is easily accessed by less then 10 minutes drive from both the M25 and M11 motorways.

      We’re also a 5 minute walk from the London Underground at Debden Station on the Central Line, 
      and we’re a 10 minute cab ride from Chingford Overground rail station.

      Once you arrive at the College there is a free car park with over 250 spaces, 
      as well as designated areas for coaches and other large vehicles.

       

      Once on site you can have access to our catering facilities (subject to agreement) and a range of rooms, 
      from our Theatre, with 264 retractable seats, to a standard classroom.

      We also have full IT support, and can offer rooms with either Macs or PCs running the latest industry-standard software.
