Business Studies A Level at Harris Academy South Norwood
The structure of the new A Level course has now changed, as the ‘AS’ course, is a standalone qualification. New Year 12 students in September 2015, will be following the AS programme of study and will be entered for exams in Summer 2016.
This exciting new course is delivered in a way which allows students to study Business Studies in a holistic way. Students will be introduced to ‘Business’ by using key business models, theories and techniques to support the analysis of contemporary business issues and situations. The content of the course is designed to engage students through topics and issues that are relevant in today’s society which include key contemporary developments such as digital technology, business ethics, and globalisation.
Students will develop the knowledge and skills needed to analyse data, think critically about issues and make informed decisions – all skills that are needed for further study and employment.
his is a one year course, will cover 6 main topic areas:
 What is Business?
 Managers, leadership and decision making
 Decision making to improve marketing performance
 Decision making to improve operational performance
 Decision making to improve financial performance
 Decision making to improve human resource performance.
This is a two year course, which will cover 10 topic areas in total. Topics 1-6 from the AS list, as well as:
 Analysing the strategic position of a Business
 Choosing strategic direction
 Strategic methods: how to pursue strategies
 Managing strategic change
Students require grade B or above in English Language GCSE and Maths GCSE. Successful completion of a GCSE Business related course is desirable. Please see the Generic Entry Requirement Document for more details.
