Art at The Warriner School
Fine Art is the area of Art and Design primarily concerned with personal expression, with producing something individual and creative.
Work may be objective and analytical, or emotive and expressive, but fundamentally it is the response of the individual using the language of the visual arts and reflecting a critical andhistorical understanding of the subject.
Art at AS and A2 level incorporates and builds on the aims and patterns of work established in GCSE Art, allowing a natural progression in Art education both for those who intend to undertake further studies (a Foundation year and then a 3 year Degree course) and those who have an interest in and aptitude for the subject, but do not intend to take it further.
The course will consist of a mixture of internally and externally set work. The first 2 units leading to the AS award will be moderated at the end of Year 12, and units 3 - 4 at the end of Year 13.Work presented for assessment must show that all the objectives demanded by the exam board have been met.
Students keep a work journal throughout the course, a combination of sketchbook and time-based record, showing evidence of the development of their ideas with reference tothe work of other artists, and showing their understanding of meanings and their ability to make skilled judgements in visual and verbal form.
Students must have achieved a grade ‘B’ in GCSE Art and Design. A ‘B’ in English is also advisable for the Extended Qualification.
