Health & Social Care BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at West Cheshire College

Course description

This course is designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to work in the health and social care sector. Core units will provide you with the essential skills for working in care, such as working in non-discriminatory or anti-discriminating ways. Work experience is pivotal to this qualification as the safety and protection of vulnerable people is a primary concern and you will undertake work placements (one day a week for two years - equating to approximately 230 hours per year) to help you develop your skills and knowledge. In addition, you will work in real working environments throughout the College - providing therapeutic activities for community groups and supporting our Health Zone and Healthy College agenda with activities to highlight health issues within the wider College community. On the first year of the course you will be enrolled on the BTEC 90-Credit Diploma and upon successful completion you may be able to progress to the 2nd year of the BTEC Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care.

* Please note for entry to university, for a Midwifery course you will need GCSE grade B in Science and for Nursing a GCSE grade B in Maths.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at grade C* or above including English and maths or successful completion of a Level 2 programme, such as the Health and Social Care Level 2 course with English and maths at Level 2. *Please note for entry to university, for a midwifery course, you will need a GCSE grade B in Science and Maths


You will be continually assessed throughout the programme.
