Health and Social Care BTEC Extended Diploma Level 3 at Burnley College

Course description

This course covers subjects including Equality and Diversity, Communication, Safeguarding Adults, Dementia Care, Anatomy and Physiology and Sociology and Psychology. Students will also complete three placements in a variety of health and social care settings alongside residential and overseas placement opportunities.

Students studying the BTEC Cadet programme will undertake two days per week in rotated placement with East Lancashire NHS Trust.

Within Health and Social Care, students will have the opportunity to study using a wide range of professional standard equipment and resources including our specialist Iris Suite Dementia Facility.

Links with local Health and Social Care providers are well established to provide learners with a range of vocational experiences. Opportunities for national and international placements are also planned in the curriculum including Berlin, Turkey and Sandpipers in Southport.

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at grade C or above including English Language and preferably Mathematics OR a relevant Level 2 Diploma with a Merit grade or above and a GCSE in English Language at grade C and preferably Mathematics. This course is subject to a clear enhanced DBS check.


Assessment is via ongoing coursework and placement reports.

Future opportunities

This diverse course prepares students for learners for progression to university or careers in a wide range of subjects related to the field including nursing, midwifery, social work, psychology and criminology.
