A level French at Boston Spa School

Course description

  • The A Level French course is designed to develop and build on the language skills acquired at GCSE and to provide a deep insight into another culture and society.
  • A level course: 2 year linear course with all assessments at the end of  year 2

Course content

  • During the AS course, students will cover: Aspects of French Society: Current trends, Artistic culture in French world and a cultural topic (a film)
  • The Year 13 course then covers: Aspects of French society: Current issues, Aspects of political life in the French speaking world, a cultural topic (a book) and opportunities for an Individual Research project based on the French speaking world.

Entry requirements

GCSE French Grade 6

Assessment

A Level examinations in June Year 13

A level paper 1: Content assessed: All aspects of French speaking society (year 1&2) and grammar, written exam: 2, 5 hours, 40% of A level

A level Paper 2: Content assessed: One book and one film or two books and grammar; Written exam: 2 hours, 90 marks, 30% of A level

A level Paper 3: Content assessed: Individual research project bsed on French speaking society and one of the four sub-themes studied across the 2 years 30% of A level, oral exam

Students will need to purchase an AS and A2 AQA text book

French A2 Level is essential for degrees in French. There are also a huge amount of degrees which include French, ranging from Law with French, to Politics with French to History with French.

 

Career Opportunities:

 

Linguists have a wide range of career opportunities open to them - the business world, translating, interpreting, teaching, journalism, any career involving travelling, amongst many others.
