A Level Physics at Altrincham College
This subject will help you understand the world we live in. You will study natural phenomena, try to understand it and predict what may happen when new parameters are included. Physics not only needs discipline to follow and construct logical sequences, but the imagination and insight to use what you have learnt in a new way. Physics is a very broad subject and can influence decisions made in the fields of mathematics, computing, telecommunications, medical practice and energy production and conservation.

Unit 4 - Mechanics and Materials
Unit 5 - Electricity
Unit 6 - Further mechanics anf Thermal Physics
Unit 7 - Fields and their Consquences
Unit 8 -Nuclear Physics
Unit 9 - An options from Astrophysics, Medical Physics, Engineering Physics, Turning Points or Electronics
5 GCSE at Grade A* to C including English Language and Maths. A grade A in GCSE Maths, grade B in Physics, or at least grade B in Core Science and GCSE Additional Science
Linear A Levels are externally assessed courses with exams coveing all units sat at the end of year 13. All students will have exams at the end of Y12 to benchmark progress. The reulst from these exams will be used as an indicator that a student has the capability to progress into Y13 and complete A Level.
Papers will include assessment covering practical skills and data analysis.
This qualification is an excellent foundation for progression in physics and related courses at university and a basis for careers in Engineering,Industry, Finance, Research and Development and Teaching.
Applicants must be well motivated, hard working and have an enthusiastic and disciplined approach to practical work is essential. Students must be willing to become independent learners and must adhere to coursework deadlines.
